Purpose Activities

Learn how to identify local sea turtles, explore their role in the ecosystem, and join a guided snorkel at Julian Rocks to collect photo ID data that supports turtle research. This activity combines education, ocean adventure, and direct support for real scientific monitoring in a protected marine sanctuary.

Anyone aged 10 and over; must be able to swim (children under 18 need adult supervision).

Equipment provided: Snorkelling Equipment, Wetsuit, Transfers, Guide By Marine Scientist

$5 from every booking is donated to Australian Seabird & Turtle Rescue Hospital Ballina.

Additional Offerings

Fun Diving

Daily boat and shore dives at Julian Rocks, with experienced guides, abundant marine megafauna, and a regular focus on citizen-science photo ID if you spot turtles.

Training Courses

Workshops in marine biology, turtle ecology, and photo ID; basic SCUBA courses offered off-site but center focus is on community engagement and hands-on science through citizen workshops.

Accommodation

Lodging is only included during unique seasonal expeditions (e.g., Heron Island workshops), not in Byron Bay itself; regular activities do not include accommodation.
