Purpose Activities

This half-day workshop teaches you about local sea turtle ecology, how to identify individual turtles, and the basics of scientific marine work. After a classroom session, you’ll snorkel at Julian Rocks with a marine scientist guide, contributing turtle ID photos to ongoing research.

Anyone 10+ years who can swim; ages 10-17 require adult supervision.

Equipment provided: Snorkelling Equipment, Wetsuit, Boat & Site Transport

A$5 per ticket is donated to Australian Seabird & Turtle Rescue. Permit #: MEAA23/222.

Additional Offerings

Fun Diving

Daily guided SCUBA dives and frequent snorkel trips to the biodiverse Julian Rocks Marine Reserve, often with opportunities for turtle encounters and optional photo-ID data collection.

Training Courses

Education focus is on hands-on marine biology workshops and research expeditions; standard beginner-to-advanced dive training is offered through affiliate pages, but signature is practical conservation snorkeling and research.

Accommodation

No regular on-site options; Heron Island trips include all accommodation and board during research expeditions.
