A marine biologist-led center combining diving, field research, and citizen science on cetaceans and turtles in the Azores, with guests directly participating in data collection and conservation actions.

Purpose Activities

Join regular eco-tourism boat trips where you help identify whales and dolphins, collect photo-ID data, assist with turtle rescue and release, participate in marine litter removal, and act as lookout—all under guidance of an experienced biologist.

Anyone interested in marine conservation; no swimming or diving skills required.
Equipment provided: Orientation By Marine Biologist, Recording Materials, Boat Ride

Participation diploma and Responsible Whale Watching T-shirt provided.

How to Join:

Simply arrive at the Dive Azores office.

  1. Go to the Dive Azores main office in Horta, Faial.
  2. Arrive a bit early to meet the team for orientation.
  3. Ask for the daily research or eco-tour activity and join the group.

Additional Offerings

Fun Diving

Boat and shore dives around Faial and Pico targeting Azorean reefs and pelagic sites, often combined with field data collection and local marine life observation.

Training Courses

Full selection of PADI courses from beginner (Open Water) up to Divemaster, taught by multilingual instructors, with small-group focus and marine species identification sessions included.

Accommodation

Assistance offered with partner guesthouses and lodges in Horta; no on-site accommodation.
