A community-based center in Simon's Town integrating marine research and citizen science with professional SSI diving and hands-on conservation training.

Purpose Activities

Join real marine biologists for ongoing data collection projects, such as population monitoring and kelp forest health tracking. You can contribute actively during your regular dives, for example by collecting photo IDs of marine life or using simple data loggers for passive research.

Certified divers of all skill levels
Required: Open Water certification
Equipment provided: Tanks, Weights, Data Loggers, GoPro (Provided During Citizen Science Collection Dives)

Projects run in partnership with Cape RADD – you'll be part of real field science on your dives.

How to Join:

Book a citizen science dive at Impact Divers.

  1. Visit the dive center desk during open hours.
  2. Ask for 'Marine Research Citizen Science Dive' sign-up.
  3. Meet the research team to go through daily projects.
  4. Bring your certification card and dive logbook.

Fun Diving

Guided dives in Simon's Town and False Bay, including kelp forests and shipwrecks, plus options to dive with data loggers or photo projects for marine research.

Training Courses

Full SSI course range, from beginner Open Water up to Instructor and Divemaster, with dedicated classroom, pool, and real conservation projects included.

Accommodation

No on-site accommodation; guests arrange stays locally in Simon's Town and walk or drive to the Ocean Hub dive center.
