Purpose Activities

All guests have the option to directly contribute to biodiversity counts and environmental data collection during every dive at Cocos Island, supporting ongoing university-led marine ecosystem studies.

All certified divers joining Undersea Hunter trips
Required: Open Water certification
Equipment provided: Tanks, Weights, Research Slates

Data contributes to published scientific research in partnership with UCR and other institutions.

How to Join:

Simply arrive and inform the dive team you want to participate.

  1. Go to the main briefing the night before diving.
  2. Let a staff member know you're interested in citizen science.
  3. Get instructions and data slates from your dive guide before entry.

Additional Offerings

Fun Diving

Cocos Island expeditions offer up to four dives per day from liveaboard vessels, exploring world-famous sites with schooling hammerheads, pelagics, and advanced-level wall and seamount dives.

Training Courses

While primarily focused on advanced/technical recreational diving, the Undersea Hunter fleet partners with experts for specialty briefings and hands-on research training during expeditions.

Accommodation

Modern, air-conditioned cabins located aboard the luxury liveaboard vessels Argo and Sea Hunter, departing from a private dock facility in Puntarenas.
